So, um, forget my previous angst-fueled baseball post.

Red Sox.
Coors Field.

Only 9 months away baby!!!

(Yes, this will be the only thing I give a crap about for the next 6 months until I can secure tickets, and then another 3 months until the actual game. Happy next birthday to me!)

I just purchased a bathing suit for the first time in 22 years.
Unfortunately, my body stopped being bathing suit ready about 5 years ago.

To the gym!

Well I hope Limbaugh 'dies from cancer,' maxe says.

Don't you dare talk smack about my president.

"President Obama"
"President Obama"

Doesn't that just sound nice?

Let's all say it together now:

President Obama!

How do I get my asshole neighbor to stop smoking in our non-smoking building, where everyone shares the same air ducts, without acting like an asshole myself?

On Gratitude [29 Dec 2008|09:53pm]
[ mood | hanging on ]

In more empirically based psychology work, gratitude has been statistically linked to happiness, pride, and hope in a study of college freshmen (Overwalle, Mervielde, & De Schuyter, 1995). The lack of gratitude has been found to be characteristic of clinically diagnosed narcissistic personalities (McWilliams and Lependorf 1990).

One of the most common happiness recommendations is to keep a gratitude journal. Studies show that doing so raises people’s life satisfaction, improves health, increases energy, reduces troublesome thoughts, and promotes good sleep.

Y'all might be surprised to hear that I actually keep a gratitude journal. Yeah, me. I don't normally bother you with it because normally it's to dull or esoteric to bother with posting here. I just wanted to take a second to acknowledge that when I started this I honestly didn't think I had anything to be grateful for. But I do. On any given day I list at least 3 items and sometimes as many as 12.

And I would be remiss if I didn't let you all know I'm grateful to have such a wonderful group of friends. Good luck to you in the new year.

Is it just me? [02 Dec 2008|03:08pm]
Whenever I hear the name Janet Napolitano my brain processes it to be Johnette Napolitano ... which would make for a very surreal new administration.

because nobody looks at my GoodReads page [08 Oct 2008|11:59am]
"If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched Establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible reason to stay at home doing one-hitters and watching MTV on primary day. By all means stay home if you want, but don't bullshit yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard's vote."

I'm glad somebody said it. [09 Sep 2008|08:58pm]
I keep hearing the local rednecks say Palin has as much experience as Obama, if not more.
This was taken from the 9.7.08 Gazette opinion page:

In response to the statement that Barack Obama’s only achievement compared to Sarah Palin is that ”he gives a mighty good speech,” let’s compare educational and legislative experiences ...
• BA in political science, Columbia University
• JD degree magna cum laude, Harvard Law School
• 1991, presi
dent of Harvard Law Review
• Professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago for eight years.
• Illinois state senator for eight years.
• United States Senator since 2005, serving on Health, Education and Labor Committee, Foreign Relations Committee, Veterans Affairs Committee.
• BS in communications/journalism, University of Idaho.
• Governor of Alaska since November 2006.
